Oral Tissue Biopsy: When a University Hospital Visit Isn't Necessary

Below, we would like to share the cases of patients

CASE 1

The first patient visited our clinic

concerned about something that had developed inside the mouth.

The intraoral lesion had not resolved over several months.

The patient wished to have it excised,

and we decided to submit the excised tissue for a biopsy

to obtain a clear diagnosis.

The lesion was removed,

and the excision site was carefully sutured.

We also followed up to check that it healed properly.

The collected specimen was placed in a formalin solution,

fixed, and sealed,

then sent to a university hospital for pathological examination.

The collected tissue went through a microscopic analysis process

to obtain a clear diagnostic result.

Once the results were available, the patient was able to receive the report at our clinic,

and we thoroughly explained the findings based on the test results.

Fortunately, no malignant findings were identified;

it was confirmed to be a benign lesion,

and no additional treatment was required in this case.

CASE 2

The second patient also visited our clinic

concerned about something that had appeared on the tongue.

As with the first case,

a biopsy referral was made.

CASE 3

The third patient likewise visited our clinic

worried about something on the tongue,

and a biopsy was similarly referred to a university hospital.

Both the second and third cases

were fortunately confirmed as benign lesions,

and no additional treatment was necessary.

In all three cases presented,

only the minimum necessary amount of tissue was excised

to help reduce post-procedure discomfort as much as possible,

and the entire process — including delivery of the biopsy results —

was completed within two weeks.

The patients expressed satisfaction,

noting that they were able to have the lesion excised

and biopsy completed without visiting a university hospital,

and that the cost was approximately at the insurance-covered level,

making the financial burden manageable. :)
