The patient we are introducing today

visited Seoul Hunhunhan Dental for a full oral examination.

A comprehensive intraoral examination

and detailed X-ray review were conducted,

and areas requiring treatment were identified.

Upper Left Premolar

First, an interproximal cavity was identified

in the upper left premolar area.

Interproximal cavities, which occur at the contact surfaces between teeth,

often extend further internally

than what is visible on the surface,

making it important to carefully select the treatment approach.

In general, inlay restoration is often considered for interproximal areas,

taking into account accessibility and the scope of restoration.

The possibility of inlay treatment was also discussed with the patient,

and we decided to first attempt

a 'resin build-up' treatment

with the goal of preserving as much of the natural tooth as possible.

(For the second premolar,

crown restoration was planned

as the extent of decay was too deep.)

The cavity was removed,

and resin build-up treatment was performed

by layering the resin incrementally.

The restored area was shaped and shaded

to harmonize naturally with the surrounding teeth.

We also carefully checked for any discomfort during biting

and confirmed that the teeth came together stably,

bringing the treatment to a thorough completion.

Lower Left Molar

The lower left molar had previously received inlay treatment

and had developed a secondary cavity.

Q. What is an inlay?

An inlay is a restoration in which the damaged portion of a tooth —

caused by decay or fracture — is removed,

and a custom-fabricated restoration is bonded

to the interior of the tooth.

It is often used when the area of damage is larger

than what a standard resin filling can address,

or when the area is subject to significant chewing forces.

Unlike a crown, which covers the entire tooth,

an inlay restores only the damaged portion.

In cases like this, it is common to consider

removing the decay and the existing inlay

and placing a new inlay restoration.

we attempted a 'resin build-up' approach

with the goal of minimizing tooth reduction,

and completed the treatment successfully.

Although the secondary cavity and existing inlay were removed

and there was a considerable area to restore,

we layered the resin carefully

and did our best to achieve a quality result.
