a case in which we assisted a patient

with retreatment (re-root canal therapy)

at our clinic.

Initial Visit

The patient we would like to introduce

visited our clinic due to discomfort

in the rearmost lower-left molar.

The tooth in question had previously undergone

root canal treatment and crown restoration,

and signs of inflammation were observed.

For a more detailed analysis,

we also took CT images.

Root canal treatment involves removing

the infected nerve, disinfecting the canal,

and sealing it with filling material.

Re-root canal treatment requires

the removal of the material

previously used to seal the inside of the tooth—

a demanding process that can involve

high-difficulty cases.

For this reason, when a previously treated tooth

develops problems,

some clinics opt for extraction

and implant placement

rather than attempting retreatment.

At Seoul Hunhunhan Dental Clinic,

we decided to attempt re-root canal treatment.

We first removed the existing crown,

and carefully removed the filling material

(G.P. cone) that had been placed

during the previous root canal treatment.

This is the completed re-root canal treatment.

We repeatedly disinfected the canal

all the way to its tip using instruments,

and after confirming that the inside

of the canal was thoroughly clean

through multiple steps,

we carefully filled it with filling material

to complete the treatment.

Completion

After confirming that the patient

had no discomfort or pain,

we placed a crown

to finalize the treatment.
